New Moon n Appointed Times

Yehwah Elohe's "Appointed Times" are ordained, as commanded Holy assemblies. These Festival gatherings, commemorate Yehwah Elohe's plan of "Salvation" for all of mankind.

In Exodus 12:1-2; Moses received instructions, from Yehwah Elohe, establishing the "Appointed Times". The month of "ABiB" identifies the "First" day, beginning the "7 months" Circuit, within the yearly Festival cycle.


There is an assumption, that Jewish Rabbis, have preserved an accurate calendar, recording Yehwah Elohe's "Appointed Times". 

Most "Church of God" organizations, that originated from, "Worldwide Church of God", trust that the modern "Hillel II Festival calendar" is Biblically accurate. Careful examination, of the reliability of the "Hillel II calendar" will reveal serious flaws within the excepted Jewish traditions.


This study examines: The "Common Ground Christian Ministry inc.": 

"evaluating calendar issues” article by, Guy Swenson. Mr. Swenson believes that the authority for establishing the exact dates for the Lev 23: appointed times, was transferred to the Jewish Sanhedrin. But, no one has authority to change Yehwah Elohe’s Laws that govern physical creation. 

Amos 5:25; 26; Acts 7:37; 38; 39; 40; 41; 42; 43; Mr. Swenson, details the Jewish religious leaders debate during Babylonian captivity. Mr. Swenson, never mentions; 

Ezekiel 22:26; 44:23; 24; Haggai 2:11; 12; 13; 14; Malachi 3:1; 2; 3; 4; 18; 4:4; Yehwah Elohe rejects the lawless Levitical Priests and has remove them from being judges. 

Also, Isaiah 8:13; 14; 15; 16; 17; Matthew 5:17; 18; 19; 20; True worshipers of Yehwah Elohe, will faithfully obey the covenant laws that were delivered to Moses. But, somehow Mr. Swenson, claims that the Jewish Sanhedrin has authority to change the law.

Then later in the article, Mr. Swenson admits that the modern Jewish calendar “postponements” are not based on any Biblically ordained authority. 


Mr. Swenson, also contradicts the Jewish folklore, that claims the ordained priest must visually sight a crescent Moon before establishing the first day of a month. Mr. Swenson mathematically proves that sighting a crescent moon will cause, the: 

Lev 23:1-2; "Appointed Times", to occur one or two days late.. Mr. Swenson, also demonstrates that the observable full moon may extend beyond a 24 hour duration. So then, the observation of a full moon does not accurately establish the 15th day of a month.



Mr. Swenson’s detailed evaluation, of calendar errors, would seem to discredit any reliance on the modern Jewish prediction of: 

Lev 23:1-2; "Appointed Times". 


But, Mr. Swenson automatically discredits any recognition of the, “New Moon” conjunction alignment. The new moon conjunction alignment is the only unchangeable and exact lunar event, that is Biblically accurate in predicting the first day of a month. Mr. Swenson, disregards the new moon conjunction, without presenting any evidence, that would discredit a careful  examination of the facts. 


The “New Moon” conjunction is the first day of a month. The “New Moon” begins day 1, commanded counting that leads to Passover evening day 14. Then at evening of day 15, the 7 days of “Unleavened Bread” begins the remembrance of Israel’s Exodus from Egypt. Yehwah Elohe commanded Moses, to count the days from the new moon, to establish the appointed times. There is absolutely no commandment or authority given by Yehwah that authorizes the sighting of a “Crescent or Full Moon” to establish any “Appointed Times”.


So, what is a “New Moon”?


Mr. Swenson, does not examine Exodus 12:2; that establishes the “New Moon” of “ABiB”as the “First” day of the “Year”, for ”Appointed Times”. But, Mr. Swenson would require evidence to prove that the “New Moon” is the conjunction and not a crescent. Even though, Mr. Swenson’s own testimony would discredit any reliance on the observance of a crescent moon.

ESL H 2320 חֹדֶשׁ [chodesh /kho·desh/] n m. From 2318; 276 occurrences; AV (incorrectly) translates as “month” 254 times, the correct meaning of the Hebrew word (חֹדֶשׁ) is“new moon” 20 times, “(חֹדֶשׁ) does not mean monthly” once, and “another?” once. 1 the ( חֹדֶשׁ = new moon). 1a the first day of the month. 1b the beginning of a lunar month.


ESL H 2318 חָדַשׁ [chadash /khaw·dash/] v. A primitive root; 10 occurrences; AV translates as “renew” seven times, and “repair” three times. 1 to be new, renew, repair. 1a (Piel). 1a1 to renew, make anew. 1a2 to repair. 1b (Hithpael) to renew oneself.

Exodus 23:15 (NASB95) — 15 “You shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread; for seven days you are to eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the appointed time in the month Abib, for in it you came out of Egypt. And none shall appear before Me empty-handed.

Exodus 34:18 (NASB95) — 18 “You shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread. For seven days you are to eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in the month of Abib you came out of Egypt.

Deuteronomy 16:1 (NASB95) — 1 “Observe the month of Abib and celebrate the Passover to the Lord your God, for in the month of Abib the Lord your God brought you out of Egypt by night.


ABiB is the first month of Yehwah Elohe’s Rosh Hashanah calendar year. The 7th month is at the “End” of Yehwah Elohe’s appointed times that complete the festival 

“circuit or halfway around a circle = תְּקוּפַ֖ת = Ht…Q-Wu-P…Ht (H 8622)”. 

Trumpets, Atonement, and Tabernacles, occur at the halfway 

“Turning Point = תְּקוּפַ֖ת”, 

that begins the 6 or 7 month count, that will return to "ABiB". 

"ABiB" is the first month of Yehwah Elohe’s Rosh Hashanah calendar year.


ESL H 24 אָבִֽיב [ʾabiyb /aw·beeb/] n m. From an unused root (meaning to be tender); Eight occurrences; AV translates as “Abib” six times, “in the ear” once, and “green ears of corn” once. 1 fresh, young barley ears, barley. 2 month of ear-forming, of greening of crop, of growing green Abib, month of exodus and passover (March or April).


(ABiB = הָאָבִֽיב = Ha…E-B-Ye-B (H 24)" = Green ears of ripening barley. The sweet green ears of ripening barley usually appear near the middle or end of March. Then in mid April the barley is ready for harvest. “ABiB” is a “30 day Time period” and a general reference to the agricultural conditions that existed throughout the territory of Israel. The agricultural Spring harvest timing is similar from the border of Egypt to the northern region of Israel. 


The elliptical orbit of the earth orbiting the sun, produces a variable 19 year Solar pattern. Even the ancient Babylonian astrologers mapped the variations in the reoccurring 19 year Solar cycle. These yearly observable patterns within nature, became predictable signs for establishing the Spring harvest. 

Noah, Abraham, Moses, and the Israelites were quite aware of the reoccurring seasonal changes. So, Yehwah Elohe’s commandment to Moses was easily understood. 


The “New Moon” conjunction is the only exact and unchanging Marker that establishes the beginning of each month. The “New Moon” conjunction that occurs closest to the spring equinox, will establish the first day of the month of “ABiB” and coincides with the ripening barley that will be ready for harvest in mid April.) 


Mr. Swenson can not ignore the reality, that predictable patterns within nature, are established by the authority of Yehwah Elohe.


Aligning Words and Definitions


The Hebrew word: 

 “month" = חֹ֧דֶשׁ = "CH-D-SH (H 2320)” 

is structured from the original paleo Hebrew Picture language. 

Each letter of “ חֹ֧דֶשׁ = CH-D-SH”) paints a picture. 

The letter “ חֹ֧ = CH” portrays a tent wall, that is hiding something. 

The letter “ דֶ = D” represents a doorway. 

The letter “ שׁ = SH” represents 2 and portrays uniting together. 


The picture word “ חֹ֧דֶשׁ = CH-D-SH” portrays the moment when the moon enters the dark tent of “New Moon - conjunction” and is hidden behind the door. This “New Moon - conjunction” also represents the moment when the two months are united. Or, in other words this begins a new month.


The paleo Hebrew adds insight into the Origin of word definitions through understanding the thought process that developed ancient languages.

But, Mr. Swenson would probably discredit the paleo Hebrew.)


Mr. Swenson, misuses Hebrew words, like "תְּקוּפַ֖ת", and does not understand: 

Psalms 19:1; 2; 3; 4; 5; 6; the 12 hour circuit of the sun. 

Mr. Swenson even discredits Yehwah by claiming Elohe did not provide adequate instruction to Moses for properly establishing the appointed times. 

But, Mr. Swenson, honors Jewish rabbis as if they have divine authority to change the law given to Moses.

( Yehwah Elohe, has pitched the tent, of the Sun, Moon, and Earth, at the outer edge of the Milky Way Galaxy. And the "Milky Way" becomes a precise (Measuring Line = קָו ) for calculating yearly seasonal cycles. The starry calendar, is a source of knowledge, for everyone that observes the hand of Yehwah within creation. )

The daylight hours, represent the visible, "Circuit" of the "Sun". This "circuit", is the measurement of Time. From the moment of sunrise to sunset. The measurement of visible daylight is approximately 12 hours or in reality, only the “sunlit” half of the 24 hour rotation of the earth.)

( Yehwah Elohe commanded Moses. The “New Moon conjunction” is the “First day of the Year = Rosh Hashanah” in the month of “ABiB”. Moses was commanded, to count 14 days to reach the evening of Passover. The following evening that begins the 15th day, commences the seven days of Unleavened Bread. Yehwah Elohe’s instruction clearly establish the precise Number of days, that begin counting on the “First - New Moon conjunction” in the month of “ABiB”.)

Counting the Sabbaths and Appointed Times


(Lev 23:1-2; 3; the commanded 7th day Sabbath, is the unbroken process of counting 7 days. 

The 7 day counting, to the weekly Sabbath, is integrated into the “7 weeks” counting process, that establishes “Pentecost”. The counting process to reach “Pentecost” begins on the day of the ‘Wave Sheaf” offering. Both, "Pentecost" and "Wave Sheaf", memorials occur on the first day after the Weekly Sabbath. 

Genesis 2:1-2; 3; Ex 20:6; 8; 9; 10; 11;The 7th day Sabbath, remains unchanged from the beginning of creation. The 7th day Sabbath’s, mathematical function is completely separated from Passover, Days of Unleavened Bread, Trumpets, Atonement, and Tabernacles. The 7th day Sabbath, does not regulate or interact with the other “Appointed Times”.)

The Hebrew word: “E…CH-D”, begins with the letter “E = #1” and is joined to the paleo symbolism of “CH-D = Hidden or tenting behind a door”. The purpose of this exact Hebrew term: identifies “Trumpets” as day #1. And presents the possibility that there may be 2 days during the: 

“New Moon conjunction” = “CH-D-SH (H 2320)”.

1 Samuel 20:7; 18; 24; 27; 34-35;The 2 day “New Moon conjunction” is a common occurrence, depicted within the story of David and Jonathan. Both, David and Jonathan testify, that they are completely knowledgeable of the exact day of the “New Moon conjunction” before it occurred. Also, there are 2 days, that “Month”, for the:

"New Moon" =“CH-D-SH (H 2320)” celebration. 

And when a 2 day “New Moon conjunction” occurs, then the Second day, becomes:

#2 Day “New Moon” Celebration!


(1 Samuel 20:7; 18; 24; 27; 34-35; reveal that David and Jonathan, have pre-existing knowledge of the exact day of the “New Moon” conjunction. The 29 1/2 day lunar cycle is easily predictable. Yehwah Elohe instructed Moses, to count from the “New Moon” conjunction. The counting method begins on day one and continues to day 29. As the sun is setting on day 29, then the trumpets sound to announce the “New Moon” conjunction. Day 30 also becomes day 1 of the next month. But, every other month it is necessary to add another day to the monthly cycle, to compensate, for the 29 1/2 day variable, in the lunar cycle. So then, every other month the trumpet sounds as the sun is setting on day 29. Then, day 30 and 31, become a 2 day “New Moon” celebration. This 2 day “New Moon” event, causes day 31 to also establish day 1 of the next month.)


(Additional note: the “New Moon” celebration is not a commanded assembly or a Sabbath day. The “New Moon” celebration only assists in memorializing Yehwah Elohe’s counting instructions)


1 Samuel 20:5 (NASB95) — 5 So David said to Jonathan, “Behold, tomorrow is the:

and I ought to sit down to eat with the king. But let me go, that I may hide myself in the field until the third evening.

New Moon, Summary and Conclusions

Within the web article, is an admission. The Hillel II calendar, mathematical calculations are formulated to align with the mid Point of the “Full Moon”, within the 7th month of Tishri. 


“The length of (Cheshvan = 9th month) and (Kislev = 10th month) are determined by complex calculations involving the time of day of the full moon of the following year's (Tishri = 7th month) and the day.” of the week that )Tishri = 7th month) would occur in the following year.


“In the fourth century, Hillel II established a fixed calendar based on mathematical and astronomical calculations. This calendar, still in use, standardized the length of months and the addition of months over the course of a 19 year cycle,”

 

(The Hillel II calendar focuses on the mathematically calculated midpoint of the “Full Moon” in the 7th month. The Hillel II focus on the “Full Moon” causes the appointed Festival days to occur, at least one day late. The elliptical orbit of the moon, will cause the “Full Moon” midpoint to vary, approximately 12 hours, (forward or backward). So then, the Hillel II calendar will ocasionly, agree with the Biblical instructions that establish calendar calculations.) 


(Yehwah Elohe's calendar focuses on the “New Moon” midpoint in the first month of "ABiB". The Hillel II calendar is not accurate and is based on violating the direct Commandments of Yehwah Elohe.)  


(added note: the Jewish folklore, pretends the Levitical Priest, required a crescent moon sighting, to establish the first day of a month. The folklore belief, probably originated in the Babylonian practice of “Crescent Moon” sighting to establish the first day of a month. The crescent moon is not the Biblical “New Moon”. The “Crescent Moon” symbol is used in Islamic flags and represents pagan mythological belief in false gods and idolatry .)

(In exodus 12:2; Yehwah Elohe commanded, that the “New Moon” is the midpoint, for establishing the first day of a month. Also, the “New Moon” conjunction, in “ABiB” the first month of the year is called “Rosh Hashanah”.)


(The Hillel II calendar and Jewish tradition, makes the erroneous claim 

that the seventh month is the beginning of the Hebrew new year, by falsely calling it: “”Rosh Hashanah”. 

Also, Jewish tradition, establish unauthorized “Postponements”. Altering the Hebrew festival calendar, if the Day of Atonement, is predicted to occur immediately, before or after, a weekly sabbath. 

Another error within Jewish tradition, is their belief, that the (“Seder” = on the evening beginning first day of “Unleavened Bread”), is actually Passover.)


(Yehwah Elohe’s counting instructions, for establishing “Pentecost”, are ignored. The Jews begin counting to “Pentecost”, immediately after  the first day of “Unleavened Bread”, instead of the unchangeable Weekly Sabbath.)


(Following Jewish traditions, may completely miscalculate, all of Yehwah Elohe’s “Appointed Times”. In addition, Jewish rabbis do not correctly count the number of years from the creation of Adam. Rabbis erroneously claim that’s the year “2023”, is actually “5783” years from Adam. But, the correct biblical Record establishes “2023” is actually “5987” years from the creation of Adam.)

So, Why do the Jewish rabbis, choose to reject Yehwah Elohe’s Commandments, by teaching their own humanly devised traditions?


(Finally, In 30A.D. The Jewish religious leaders, unjustly condemned to death, and nailed to a cross, the promised Messiah Yeshua . So I do not believe it is wise to follow Jewish traditions.)
