MiLK n MEAT - to EAT or NOT?


 A Cheesie Parable


There once was a Pharisee that observed Messiah Yeshua entering a McDonald’s. The Pharisee considered a divine way of trapping the do-be-us Messiah in a sin. So the Pharisee followed Yeshua in and asked, “is it lawful to eat milk and meat together”? Yeshua said, “Show me a cheeseburger”. So the Pharisee purchased a big Mac with cheese. And he told the cashier, “give it to the Messiah”. Messiah Yeshua said, “give it to the poor-hungry Samaritan Child standing behind me”. Then, Yeshua smiled at the Pharisee and said, “How do you judge”? The Pharisees’ face turned red and he began to burn with righteous indignation. Miraculously a small cloud appeared above the Pharisee and snowflakes began falling on his head. Suddenly a voice seem to thunder, “Chill out, do not boil over a kid nurturing a cheeseburger”!


(Mark 7:1-2; 3-4; 5-6,; 7-8; 9; 13; Yeshua often confronted the Pharisees and corrected their errors, because they added many human traditions to create a false Image of righteousness. Ancient rabbis expanded their interpretation of Scripture by magnifying their own “Oral Law”. The Commandments of Yehawah became a mystery to the rabbis that desired to be honored as teachers. But, the law itself was beyond their understanding. And they refused to obey. One example is the command, “do not boil a kid in its mothers milk”. Rabbinical interpretation assumes that dairy and meat products should not be consumed together. The rabbis expanded their “oral Law” to include the requirement for separate dishes in utensils for the preparation of consuming meat or dairy. Yeshua said their hearts are far from him. Rabbis do not seem to read scripture from a heart of understanding. So they do not see the clear and simple responsibility to care for and respect the life of an animal. Strangely, combination of bagels lox and cream cheese does not seem to violate any Biblical law. Rabbis do not have a problem with digesting dairy and fish together. So, what about a chicken cheeseburger? As long as the meat and dairy come from lawfully clean animals then it may be consumed as food.)


Mothers Milk?


Exodus 23:15; 16-17; 18; 19; 34:18; 19-20; 21-22; 23-24; 25-26; Deut 14:21; 22; The command “do not boil a kid in its mothers milk” is always referenced in connection with the three annual festivals. Passover, Unleavened Bread, Pentecost, and Tabernacle's. The first fruits of the harvest and flocks were brought to the festival. The first born “Male” of man or animal must be redeemed or sacrificed before the tent of meeting. The command concerning “mothers milk” is a principal that protects a young animal from being taken away from its mother while it is still nursing milk. The Jewish tradition, of not consuming milk and meet together has no scriptural validity in connection to these verses.


Circumcision and the 8th Day


Exodus 22:29; 30; Lev 22:27-28; There is a clear prohibition that protects a nursing lamb or calf for the first seven days after birth. On the eighth day a first born animal or human child is set apart and dedicated to Yehawah.  Later, after one month, then the first born Male child or animal must be redeemed with money. The Levitical priest must examine a firstborn clean animal before it may  be accepted for a burnt offering.  A burnt offering must meet the requirements of purity without spot or blemish to be offered before Yehawah. Also, it is obvious that not all eight day old animals are required to be sacrificed as a burnt offering. Only first born males are required to be set apart on the 8th day. When a male child is circumcised and dedicated,then it returns to nursing from its mother. Also, an 8 day old first born clean male animal may return to nursing from its mother's milk. These verses do not establish a requirement for an acceptable animal to be immediately offered as a burnt sacrifice on the 8th day. Most animal sacrifices are required to be at least one year old.


Redemption Price


Exodus 13:2; 12; 13; 15; Only the first born male is sanctified = set apart four YHWH and required to be redeemed. 

Lev 27:26; Num 3:40; 41; 42; 43-44; 45; 46-47; 48-49; 50; There are examples of first born man and animals being redeemed by being replaced with other animals or money.

Num 18:15; 16; 17;  The monetary redemption value of the first born is collected after one month from the time of birth. Although the general rule is, that the first born male of clean animals may not be redeemed.


Festival Food


Deuteronomy 12:6; 11; 12; 16; 17; 18; 26; 27; 14:23; 15:19; 20; 21; 22;    The tithes, offerings, and first born clean animals must be set apart until the appointed festival gathering where YHWH places His name. So then, first born clean animals that are devoted to YHWH may continue to nurse from their mothers milk until they are mature for a sacrificial burnt offering.

Deut 14:21; 22; 23; 24; 25; 26;The prohibition, “do not boil a kid in its mothers milk” is always referenced in connection to the three annual festivals. A kid may be part of the yearly 10% increase that is set apart for the festival gathering. Generally only mature animals would provide sufficient food for the celebration. There is an option of exchanging the tithe for a monetary equivalent value if the distance to the festival is too great. Young nursing animals would not be transported to the festival.


Do Not Shear or Plow!


Deuteronomy 15:19; 20; 21; The animals that are set apart as a tithe or offering must be old enough to plow with or be sheered. This prohibition designates that an animal must be mature before it is acceptable as an offering. The animal also must be without spot or blemish. The 3 yearly festivals are the appointed time when offerings are presented.


One year Old


 Exodus 12:5;  Mic 6:6; Obedience to levitical law requires that all animals must be at least one year old before it is acceptable as a sacrificial offering.

A Cheesie Kid Story, with a Good Summary


(-:Yeshua the Messiah blessed the kid leaving McDonald’s. With the cheeseburger held close at heart, the young Samaritan greeted the children waiting outside. One by one, each child received a portion. Then they gathered together and watched a beautiful sunset. The good Samaritan kid fed 8000 friends with a lowly cheeseburger and they were filled and entered the Sabbath Rest:-)
